Care Tips for Longevity

  1. How should I clean my cutting board?

    • Clean your cutting board with warm, soapy water after each use. Avoid leaving it soaking in water or putting it in the dishwasher, as this can damage the wood. ALWAYS ensure you wet the board on both sides EVERY time you clean it in the sink. Do not let it sit/lay in standing water either in the sink or on a wet countertop. Ensure it is dry before storing. We let ours dry by standing them on one of the corners to ensure only a small amount of surface area is in contact with the countertop. You will want to store your board standing on it's side or end. Ensure there is no contact with other boards while it is being stored. If stored laying flat, ensure that air is able to flow on both sides of the board.

  2. How often should I oil my wooden cutting board?

    • It’s recommended to oil your wooden cutting board every month or whenever it appears dry. Use a food-safe mineral oil or a specialized cutting board oil. The frequency of seasoning your wooden cutting board also depends on how much it is used. If used on a regular basis you will want to season it more often, or whenever it seems to be dryer than normal.

  3. Can I soak my cutting board to sanitize it?

    • NO, soaking can warp or crack the board. Instead, after cleaning, you may want to apply a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water to sanitize without soaking.

  4. How do I remove stains or odors from my cutting board?

    • To remove stains, sprinkle baking soda on the area and scrub gently. For odors, spreading baking soda on the board and scrubbing the surface with half a lemon can be very effective. You should wash it as normal after you scrub it.

  5. What should I do if my cutting board cracks or fades?

    • If your cutting board develops small cracks, you can sand them down and reapply oil. For deeper cracks, consider contacting us so that we can assess the damage and proscribe a solution. If the board is "fixable" a solution may require you sending the board back to us for reconditioning.
